The year 2013.. The year I started my professional career in Singapore, the year I started to crave for the ultimate Dutch snack.. Bitterballen!!
The only way forward was to prepare it myself. I simmered fresh beef stock into a flavorful ragout and molded it into a ball with a delightful crispy coating.
Over the years I managed the art of making Bitterballen and pleased our visitors at home.. and of course, to satisfy my craving.
During the Covid period in 2021, we established an online shop on Instagram. The reaction was fantastic, and we were overwhelmed by the demand. Alongside my wife Eva, we crafted thousands of Bitterballen to distribute to our customers.
Unfortunately, we were unable to manage the manual load, and as soon as the borders in Singapore reopened, we stopped our production. After two years of lockdown, we finally got to visit my wife's family in Malaysia again.
Now.. still making Bitterballen myself.. I NEED to share it with you!! It's so delicious, really! Please try it.
I'm hopeful that we can create a demand to make it financially sustainable to cook Bitterballen in Asia, as it is something everyone should have!
